Sydney – 8th November - Mint Innovation secured two prestigious awards at the InnovationAus 2023 Awards for Excellence, for the categories under Energy & Renewables and Manufacturing Innovation. The awards were presented during a Gala Dinner ceremony held at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney, where Australia's biggest clean-tech innovators gathered to celebrate the night.

In the category of Manufacturing Innovation, Mint stood out for its groundbreaking approach to low-carbon technology, focusing on extracting metals from old electronic devices. In an interview by InnovationAus’s team with Johann Havenga, Chief Technology Officer of Mint Innovation, he expressed his gratitude and emphasized the collective effort of the Mint Innovation team.

"It's the pinnacle of great team effort for the company, to be able to showcase what we do, how we provide an avenue for e-waste to be recycled in Australia." said Mr. Havenga.

Nick Purtell, Head of the Division for Commercialisation at the Federal Department of Industry, Science, and Resources presented the award. This accolade acknowledges Australian companies at the forefront of introducing new technologies to bolster domestic manufacturing, especially in the post-Covid era.

In the Energy & Renewables category, Mint Innovation also showed its eco-friendly, low-carbon solution to recycle rare earth metals from old electronic devices. This award was presented by Agile Digital Executive Director David Elliot, and accepted by our CEO Dr. Will Barker. As a company, we believe that it is critical to reduce emissions and transition to renewable energy resources, and our innovative approach is poised to contribute significantly to this mission.

Mint’s CTO Johann Havenga also highlighted the growing awareness within the community about the potential of a circular economy, emphasising the importance of recycling e-waste rather than sending it to landfill. This shift in mindset is pivotal in the global effort to conserve resources and reduce the environmental impact of mining.

With the company’s capital raise efforts of NZD $65M from earlier this year, led by Liverpool Partners, a private equity firm based in Sydney – Mint plans to tackle current metal mining practices, by establishing biorefineries in major cities globally, thereby promoting the use of ‘green’ metals and accelerating a circular economy.
